Lesson 1: Introducing the Personality Profile

The first lesson in our five-part series on using the Personality Profile.

Updated over a week ago

Welcome to our five-part series on the Personality Profile. In this series, we’re going to walk through our flagship product, the Personality Profile.

In this first lesson, we’re going to start with the basics:

What is the Personality Profile?

The Personality Profile is an adjective-based self-assessment that identifies key business-oriented personality characteristics and traits.

We’ll talk a bit more about the test form itself in a few minutes. But for now, know that the Personality Profile is designed with three main objectives in mind:

  • To help you conduct more in-depth and objective interviews

  • To reduce bias when interviewing candidates

  • To hire the right person, the first time

Conducting in-depth interviews

At Hire Success, we believe that asking better interview questions results in better hires. You probably know this intuitively, but how do you actually do it?

The Personality Profile does the heavy lifting for you. Using the key personality characteristics and traits from the assessment, the Personality Profile generates nuanced interview questions for you to ask.

These questions reveal a person's behavior on the job and how they might react in certain situations.

Imagine how this one piece of intel could impact your ability to hire right the first time.

Reducing bias

One of the main reasons a human interviewer alone is not very effective is that people tend to be influenced by information and elements not related to the job, and in many cases, preconceived expectations and prejudices.

That’s why it’s important to establish an objective way of evaluating candidates, not only for the effectiveness on the job, but to assure non-discrimination and other such issues.

Whether you have tens, hundreds, or thousands of applications for a position, the Personality Profile takes the guesswork out of the hiring equation because it uses data to guide your interview process.

Reducing bad hires

Considering that the cost of a “bad hire” can be in the thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars, avoiding even one can pay for the Hire Success Personality Profile many times over. Now, imagine if you were able to avoid two or more bad hires.

The numbers are one thing. But we’re guessing you either know or have experienced what can happen in an organization when there’s a bad fit in the staff. Inefficiency, bad morale, high turnover...

The bottom line is that the Personality Profile helps you avoid sticky staffing issues that are hard to solve and reap the benefits of great fit employees who are ideally suited for their work.

The applicant experience

The test form is an adjective-based assessment.

What that means is candidates assess to what degree each of 100 adjectives applies to them at work. Using a five-point scale, they decide if an adjective applies by selecting 1 for Often applies or a 5 for Seldom applies. For those in-between degrees of applicability, they can enter a 2, 3, or 4.

For example, they could select a 4 (applies less than half the time) for Skeptical, and a 2 (applies more than half the time) for Firm.

In our experience providing hundreds of thousands of assessments, the five-point scale is the best method for candidates to accurately assess themselves.

To get the most out of this series, we encourage you to take the profile and judge for yourself how accurate it is. Sending it to yourself and a coworker is even better!

The assessment only takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete, and it can be done on any internet-connected device. Once you, or a candidate, hits DONE, the Hire Success platform does the rest and sends you an email immediately.

That’s all there is to it.

Sending the assessment to yourself, a friend, or coworker

Here’s a quick run-through of how to add someone to the system and send them an assessment.

We suggest letting the person know in advance so you can brief them on what you’d like them to do. The more seriously everyone takes this test run, the more value you’ll uncover.

To send the assessment to yourself, a friend, or coworker:

  1. Log into your Hire Success account.

  2. From the dashboard, select the Employees from the top navigation bar.

  3. Click Add Employee.

  4. Complete the required fields for someone you know well, like a coworker, a non-employee, or yourself.

  5. Click Require Assessment and Select Personality Profile from the drop-down menu

  6. Click Submit. If you want, customize the email message to your team member.

  7. Click Send, and it’s away!

Once they complete the test, the results appear on your dashboard.
